The Hunger Games is one of the best book ever! A top selling book. Since the movie over 7.5 million copies of the books have been sold.
The Hunger Games Trilogy follows the life of Katniss Everdeen, a 16 yr. old girl trying to take of herself, mother and sister Prim.
The setting is in the future of The U.S. which is divided in districts. 12 to be precise. And a capitol called "Panem"
Panem is basically rich and futuristic. The 6 districts close to the capitol are well off, but the 6 on the out-skirts are some what in povertiy. But no district takes the worst of it than district 12. Home of Katniss.
The Hunger Games started 74 years ago after the districts tried to rebel against the capitol. Now the capitol is punishing them by taking to of the children from each district between the ages of 12-18. One boy and one girl. Put into an arena to fight to the death.
Each year from the age of 12 you name gets put in a glass bowl ONCE. By the time your're 18 you would only have about 7 slips of you name in. Put if you struggle to survive like Katniss and her best friend Gale Hawthorne then you could get a tesserae. Where you get oil and grain, in exchange for one name slip added to the bowl. Katniss at 16 has about 30 names in, and Gale at 18 has about 40.
The day of the reaping Katniss' 12yr old sister Prim has only had her name in once since she just turned 12 before the reaping( the reaping is the day they pick the tributes at each disrtict) When Prim gets picked Katniss volunteers for Prim. The boy tribute is Peeta Mellark.
If you want to know more read the book! Even if you aren't a reader. I hated reading, then my friends and cousins pushed me to read. When I did I stayed up til 4am reading, I couldn't put it down. Since the Hunger Games trilogy I have finished The Uglies series by Scott Westerfield, The Gripping/Skinned Trilogy BY Robin Wasserman and I will be reading The Modern Faerie Tales By Holly Black (Not your average tinkerbell story)
